The Medal of Arts, established by Congress in 1984, is awarded by the President to those who have made extraordinary contributions to the creation, growth, and support of the arts in the United States.

Violinist Kenneth Goldsmith performs Vivaldi and Bach with the Cedar Rapids Chamber Orchestra to an overflow audience at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, December 4, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

George Ford of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, writes:

“. . .Goldsmith, former CRSO concertmaster, electrified the audience with his solo on Vivaldi’s Concerto in F Minor for Violin, “Winter” from the Four Seasons. The award-winning violinist plays with a joyous assurance that brings the music to life and carries the audience to its glorious conclusion.

Goldsmith and Tiemeyer were soloists for Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin and Cello in B-flat Major. Their interaction was most enjoyable, showing two masters of their craft at their peak.

Horiuchi, the current CRSO concertmaster, joined Goldsmith for a Bach double, the Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins. As the music soared from the violins of Horiuchi and Goldsmith, you could see the audience leaning forward to hear and see their captivating performance. The duo received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience.”
