Recordings: As a pre-eminent singer and artist of his generation, dramatic baritone Donnie Ray Albert has sung major roles with the opera companies of Chicago, New York City, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Berlin, London, Milan, Köln, Bordeaux. Bregenz, Vienna, and many others. Recent critically
acclaimed performances include Born in Louisiana, Mr. Albert earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University and Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and he has served as a resident artist with the Center for Black Music Research at Chicago’s Columbia College. Mr. Albert’s discography includes RCA’s Grammy Award and Grand Prix du Disque winning recording of Porgy and Bess, NOW’s The Horse I Ride Has Wings, with David Garvey, Zemlinsky’s Frühlingsbegräbnis and Eine Florentinische Tragödie on EMI, Simon Sargon’s A Clear Midnight on Gasparo, Harold Blumenfeld's Mythologies on Albany, Liszt’s St. Stanislaus on Telarc, and Carlisle Floyd’s Pilgrimage on Cinnabar. In recital and on recording, Mr. Albert continues to champion the music of American composers.
