As a pre-eminent singer and artist of his generation, dramatic baritone Donnie Ray Albert has sung major roles with the opera companies of Chicago, New York City, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Berlin, London, Milan, Köln, Bordeaux. Bregenz, Vienna, and many others.

Recent critically acclaimed performances include
Mr. Albert’s Nabucco at La Scala in Milan with Ricardo Muti, Zemlinsky’s Eine Florentinische Tragödie with Deborah Voigt and James Conlon, his performances of Wotan/Wanderer in Keith Warner’s production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the National Theatre of Tokyo, and the title role of Ernest Bloch’s Macbeth in Vienna. As a concert artist, he is much in demand for Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Requiem, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with major orchestras throughout the world.

Born in Louisiana, Mr. Albert earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University and Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and he has served as a resident artist with the Center for Black Music Research at Chicago’s Columbia College. Mr. Albert’s discography includes RCA’s Grammy Award and Grand Prix du Disque winning recording of Porgy and Bess, NOW’s The Horse I Ride Has Wings, with David Garvey, Zemlinsky’s Frühlingsbegräbnis and Eine Florentinische Tragödie on EMI, Simon Sargon’s A Clear Midnight on Gasparo, Harold Blumenfeld's Mythologies on Albany, Liszt’s St. Stanislaus on Telarc, and Carlisle Floyd’s Pilgrimage on Cinnabar. In recital and on recording, Mr. Albert continues to champion the music of American composers.
